SPH Search

I read with interest an article in The Straits Times. It was about SPH Search, the much publicised but yet-to-be launched search engine that “promises to provide high relevant answers and Singapore-focused information to anyone anywhere in the world”.

I think that’s a very ambitious statement! And I really hope SPH will succeed - but it won’t be able to “supplant the big names of Google and Yahoo as the prime tool for sourcing local information”

I was reading the book, Google Maps Hacks by Rich Gibson & Schuyler Erle, thinking that I might want to mashup one of my site which offers listings online to business. I was at hack #2 and realized that there might be an easier way.
Yes, the easy way is to go Google Local Business Center and add your business.

Log in using your Google account, if you do not have a Google account yet then you can register at the URL above.
It was pretty straight forward and you just need to follow the step-by-step instructions to enter information about your business e.g. business name, location, telephone and URL to your web site. You will be prompted to validate your business listing via telephone or SMS. So you may want to do this at your office.

My homepage, ShiHengCheong.com and this blog is now ranked Number 2 and Number 3 in Google.com.sg for the search terms seo singapore.
This blog had been in the 5th and 6th positions for more than 6 months and I was satisfied with the ranking. So getting to 2nd and 3rd position is really a pleasant surprise for me.
So how come the ranking improved?
