Singapore SEO
2 Comments
I loved Sunday. I believe this is the day when Google like to mess with the search engine ranking and I get my momentary fame. Finally, my big day has come, this blog is ranked Number 1 for the search terms: seo singapore! on Sunday, 25 November 2007.
Is this an early Christmas gift from Google?
Thank you, thank you, thank you….

The good news is I’ve just converted to Singnet Broadband 10 Mbps(mio Plan) and I am happy with the performance after 3 days of testing and 1 call to the Singnet Technical Support (1800-848-6933).
The not-so-good news is SCV MaxOnline upgrade the download speed from 6 Mbps to 8 Mbps for free from 1 Jan 2008. So, I would have gotten faster access if I were to stick with the plan and save some money!
However, it was unfair to compare Singnet 10 Mbps with MaxOnline Express. A better comparison would be between Singnet 10Mbps ($85/month) vs MaxOnline Premium($81.32/month).

I have just uploaded a video testimonial on SEO Web Design Course recorded 2 days ago. This video featured Terence Yap of BPI Technology (S) Pte Ltd who attended the SEO Web Design Course on 6 Oct 2007.
Terence registered a new domain and created a new site,
www.MoldReleaseNanoTechnology.com to test out what he learned at the course. To cut the story short, his new site was ranked in the first page of Google for his targeted keywords within 2 weeks. He was very surprised but overjoyed with the results.

Domain Names, SPH Search
Comments
SPH-Search.com is a new domain name I registered on 30 Oct 2007 for the purpose of experimenting how quickly I can get it into the top 10 of Google for the search terms: sph search.
A simple page was put up and the links to all 3 SPH Search domains were placed right at top.

In doing so, I am actually helping www.sphsearch.com, www.sphsearch.com.sg and www.sphsearch.sg to be found since the folks at SPH Search Pte Ltd are not very good at SEO.

After reading Kian Ann’s amazing feat on getting into Google’s 1st Page in 17 minutes, I started a series of experiments to test if such results are reproducible. Yes. I managed to repeat the results again and again.
So far, the fastest result I obtained was 13 minutes for a 7-terms phrase. My newest test done less than an hour ago with the search terms sph search, got into the 8th position in about 19 minutes.

SPH Search

The new search engine backed by Singapore media giant Singapore Press Holding Ltd, SPH Search will be powered by techonology developed by Fast Search & Transfer ASA.
According to Wikipedia, “FAST focuses on enterprise real-time data search technologies. It originally owned the web search-engine AlltheWeb as which was later sold to Overture in 2003, now part of Yahoo!.”
So are we talking about a first generation search engine technology that got “eaten up” by Yahoo in 2003?
Now that FAST had changed and focused on enterprise real-time data search technologies, it was still not doing too well lately(Aug 2007) – at least not in the eyes of those 148 people who got retrenched by the company.

SPH Search

I read with interest an article in The Straits Times. It was about SPH Search, the much publicised but yet-to-be launched search engine that “promises to provide high relevant answers and Singapore-focused information to anyone anywhere in the world”.

I think that’s a very ambitious statement! And I really hope SPH will succeed – but it won’t be able to “supplant the big names of Google and Yahoo as the prime tool for sourcing local information”

Google Maps, Web Promotion
Comments
I was reading the book, Google Maps Hacks by Rich Gibson & Schuyler Erle, thinking that I might want to mashup one of my site which offers listings online to business. I was at hack #2 and realized that there might be an easier way.
Yes, the easy way is to go Google Local Business Center and add your business.
http://www.google.com/local/add
Log in using your Google account, if you do not have a Google account yet then you can register at the URL above.
It was pretty straight forward and you just need to follow the step-by-step instructions to enter information about your business e.g. business name, location, telephone and URL to your web site. You will be prompted to validate your business listing via telephone or SMS. So you may want to do this at your office.
Here’s an example how it looks like when you search for Cold Storage, Singapore:
