I think creating a digital footprint is important to marketing your business online.

Digital footprints help you to create visibility for yourself or your company and drive traffic to your sites.

It is easy to create a personal digital footprint. However, there are certain “rules” that you need to be aware of when you are trying to create a digital footprint for your company.

When I create personal footprints, I drive the traffic to this blog.

Creating Digital Footprints for Your Company

As for my SEO training business, I drive traffic to Finggle.com. BTW, after about 6 months of leaving digital footprints at strategic locations, www.finggle.com is now ranked among the top 10 for SEO training and related search terms.

To understand more about Digital Footprints, you may want to read this white paper published by Harry Hallman.

Creating Digital Footprints Your Prospects Can Follow

I wished I’d read this white paper 6 months ago. I would have saved much time on trial and error!

Go read Harry’s white paper now.

I was in and out of the Number 1 position for seo singapore since my last post on Ranked 1st for SEO Singapore. And I think it’s alright for my ego as long as I am in the top 5.

This week, the last week of Year 2007, this blog was demoted to #3 and #4. LarryLim.net came up number 1 after vanishing from the top 10 for several weeks. And I was thinking what happened to my friend…

I believe Larry has been tweaking his site to rank for a new set of search terms e.g. internet marketing (Larry, here’s a text link to you), internet marketing services and internet marketing consultant. He is probably positioning himself for a better new year.

How Do You Know Larry is Targeting “Internet Marketing”?

Look at the title tag: “#1 Singapore SEO Consultant – Internet Marketing Services”. And he echoed “internet marketing services” in the description meta tag.

The meta title tag and meta description tag are the two most important meta tags where you want to place your targeted keywords.

In the content, you would notice that he used “internet marketing” repeatedly and even in the img alt tag!

A quick check at www.archive.org for previous versions of LarryLim.net and you will see the difference in the focus of keywords used in the current home page.

All the tweaking got him a top 10 position in Google for “internet marketing services” and “internet marketing consultant”.

Well done, Larry! Drop me a comment when you get into the top 10 for “internet marketing”.

Google #7 for internet marketing services

Google #2 for internet marketing consultant

So what is my guess for…

Who Will Be Ranked #1 for SEO Singapore in 2008?

LarryLim.net!

I created this GPS website as a demonstration for the participants of the Internet Marketing in Action Workshop last week. As I was short of time and did not show them in detail how to do a mini-site with free web hosting, Netfirms.com. So I decided to to a new website on topic that I am familiar with.

Yes, I was involved with GPS land survey since the early 90′s. At the time, we could only get 4 or more satellites for less than 4 hours at a stretch. So planning before going out to collect GPS satellites data was mandatory. There were many times we spent hours collecting the data and then found out when we returned to the office that there were too many “cycle-slips” and the data was not reliable for further computation. Well, that was in the old days.

Why do we need 4 or more satellites?
I will not go into the technical details and complex mathematical formulae. Basically, we need signals from 4 or more satellites in order to eliminate the errors due to interference while to signals are propagated from more than 19,000km in the sky to the surface of the Earth. Remember, I was into land surveying and I needed centimeter accuracy.

Nowadays, with more than 24 satellites in operation, you get 4 or more satellites 24/7. Also, no “selective availability” to worry about. With a $100 handheld GPS, you can now get position to within 10m accuracy. And if you do a lot of long distance or inter-state driving, a GPS car navigator will be very useful.

An ex-colleague whom I spent numerous hours in the hot sun and tropical storm in Singapore trying to collect sufficient GPS satellites signals, called me a few weeks ago. He was telling me how amazing his new toy – a Garmin GPS for car navigation – gave him precise direction while driving around Singapore and when he travels to Malaysia in his BMW.

His phone call actually rekindled my interest in GPS. Not for land surveying though, but handheld GPS and car navigator units. I may even take up Geocaching as my new hobby.

Finally, I decided to make the move into search marketing. After the initial success with Joe Tan project to use search engine to promote his website, I am now more confident than ever to take on new project that are even more challenging.

Last week, I met with Yvonne to discuss how I could help her company to promote their services online. The company aims to capture clients that are Internet savvy and open to online transaction. Yvonne was particular interested to use Yahoo! Search Marketing Solutions to launch the marketing campaign.

To better position myself for this growing need for search marketing service, I registered a new domain www.searchmarketing.sg last week. I also revised www.mywebculture.com to reflect to realignment of web hosting business to search marketing business.
